"Orwell lived at the top of the house from 1944, first with Eileen, then with
a housekeeper [after Eileen's death], then with his sister Avril. It cost
them about £100 a year to rent. Eileen once told a friend that they
would be able to afford much better places if they didn't both smoke so much."
--Orwell's London, pg. 92.
Again, a plaque is set up near the door to commemorate Orwell's residence. And again, Orwell's London doesn't show the entranceway clearly enough to see if the plaque was there in 1984. This was the third plaque we saw--I'm not sure if other writers are so often honored. Of course, Orwell was fairly itinerant, especially in his early career, so there are many buildings his name can be attached to.
